1st and 10 Engine

Class Name: 1st and 10 Engine Ops 

Description: The first arriving engine on the scene will make or break the entire operation. A successful engine company will make easy work of the objectives needed to extinguish the fire quickly and efficiently. This class will cover the 1st engine arriving at a fire scene and cover the tasks that need to be accomplished within the 1st 10 minutes on scene. It will cover every riding position on the engine and provide tips and tricks for anyone taking this course. The course will cover everything from the arrival report to the hose deployment, from advancing hose to nozzle techniques. This is a must have course for anyone assigned to an engine. The morning session will have rotations through the different objectives.

1. Scene size ups

2. Arrival reports

3. Decision making

4. Estimating distances

5. Apparatus placement

6. Stretching the hose

7. Control position for the outside firefighter

8. Advancing the line

9. Flowing and moving

10. Vertical stretches and securing hose

The afternoon session will be scenario based into live fire, putting it all together.

Cadre: District Chief Steven Negedly – Orlando Fire Dept.

Fire Service Career: D/C Negedly started in the fire service in 1993, serving for Volusia County Fire Services, the city of Edgewater and finally Orlando Fire Dept. since 2003. Currently a District Chief assigned to float on C-shift for the city. 

Education: D/C Negedly has an Associates in General Studies and Fire Science and a Bachelor’s Degree in Fire and Emergency Services from the University of Florida.

Fire Service Instructor: D/C Negedly has been an instructor since 2004. The Program Manager for Valencia College for the Driver Operator program which includes Pump Ops and Aerial Ops since 2008. Also, the Program Manager for the Driver Operator program at Seminole State College of Florida. Also the lead instructor for minimum standards class at Seminole State College of Florida. 

Other: D/C Negedly serves as the Director of the Orlando Fire Conference since 2016. Part owner of Professional Testing Consultants, a company that conducts promotional assessments for fire departments and teaches classes such as Pump Operations, Aerial Operations, and 1st and 10 Engine for various departments. D/C Negedly is an experienced conference instructor and has presented at the Florida Fire Conference, Ft. Lauderdale Fire Expo, and Ancient City Fire Expo.  

Class Length: 8 hours

Student Needs: Full PPE, SCBA and Spare Cylinder
