
Class Name: Duval Hose Company: The Engine That Could
Description: Engine Company operations are vital to the fire ground’s success. This 8 hour class is geared for that 1 out of 10 fires where it’s a high heat low visibility, ventilation controlled working fire. The seat must be found and a push must be made. The electrical drop line is burned through and laying somewhere in the front yard, waiting on you to step on it. Reports of victims have been relayed by fire communications. The Truck guys’ primary search is dependent on the Engine Co. operations and GO! This class will cover the skills and tactics to be successful for this fire and others. Different methods of stretching and advancing. When to flow and when to hold your water. Searching for fire. Engine playbook for extended stretches, upper floor stretches, blitz attack, obstacles in the yard, mask up, and size up.
Cadre: Maurice Brown has 17 years of service with the Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department. The last 8 years he has been a Lieutenant on E36, a busy Engine Company on the Northwest side of Jacksonville. He designed the Engine Company Operations class for JFRD’s recruit school. He teaches tactics and strategies for JFRD’s Company Officer program. He also teaches Make Engines Great Again with Fire Service Training and Consultants, at the Orlando Fire Conference and the Ft. Lauderdale Fire Expo.
